Goodwill Evening 2008 - Be Inspired

This year, the Goodwill Procession will leave from Bank Gardens, at the bottom of the High Street, and weave its way around town. There will be various stops along the way when Cotswold Players will entertain onlookers with songs for Christmas and from their New Year production of "A Little Shop of Horrors"

Dress up, bring a lantern, decorate an umbrella or just turn up, meet at 6.15 pm near the gates, at the bottom of the High Street in Bank Gardens (by Lansdown). More volunteer stewards always required.

This year's event is going to involve The Cotswold Players, Stroud's new Rock Choir, StroudSong, Circle of Song, Stroud Morris Side, The Gloucestershire Mummers, The Elfin Woodcraft Folk and many other youth and community groups, volunteer artists and makers.

In Kendrick Street there will be a little bit of glitz and glamour with red carpets, starlets and Oscars. Look out for your favourite shop keepers dressed up to the nines... especially the guys in Kendrick Street Deli. The Made in Stroud Shop will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in style and the glamorous staff will be happy to help you chose the perfect Christmas gift for your loved one.

There will be a retro fun fair playing '60s and '70s music in Fawkes Place, whilst choirs and stalls fill the Sub Rooms Forecourt.

Down in Merrywalks Shopping Centre, you can "Wish upon a Star" with Wynstones Wish, who have a beautiful Christmas tree waiting for your wishes for the loved ones you'd like to remember this Christmas.

The whole of Merrywalks will be bustling with local charities who will set up their stalls around the Christmas tree. Come down and find out more, have a go on the Leisure Centre exercise bike and soak up the atmosphere.

Stroud's newest shop, Potty 4 Pottery, at 33A the High Street (top of the High Street near the crossing) will be hosting ceramic star & angel painting for children, with free mulled wine for parents.

The Door project in Gloucester Street will be holding its traditional annual OPEN HOUSE for young people aged 11 to 25. There will be a free gift to everyone who turns up, Karaoke, and refreshments. Great company in a safe place to be for youngsters, everyone welcome.

Stroud College make-up artistry students will be offering face painting for children in the Cafe Bar of the Subscription Rooms. Donations are invited.

The Magic Bean Company at Smartworks in Gloucester Street will also be having Goodwill evening fun, with music, DJ-ing, a free buffet and a dragon who will be entering the procession. This event is free and open to all members of the community with a learning disability, and all their families and friends. Again, everyone welcome.

St Laurence's Church Christmas Tree Festival will be open to visitors until 8.30pm, and the gates to the church from the Shambles market will be open for access.

Christmas markets will run in the Shambles and Cornhill until 9 pm, for great Christmas shopping ideas and a fantastic atmosphere.

The Stroud Valleys Project "Eco Shop" will be open and barbecuing popcorn in Threadneedle Street.

Most of the shops, cafes and businesses in Stroud will be open and greeting you with lots of seasonal cheer. There's never been a better time to shop in Stroud.

Webworks are doing a special offer - free mystery gift when you spend over £150 in one transaction, plus loads of Christmas offers.
