There are many reasons why more and more local farmers, growers and producers
are turning to direct sales. The most obvious is that without the middle
men you get a bigger slice of the sale price. You'll also get the satisfaction
of knowing that other people care about how you farm. They're pleased
you've made the effort to grow your produce with care. let your hens run free or pigs
root around out side.
On the down side you'll need to put in more effort to prepare and present
the food. You'll likely need to know more about food safety and labeling
and you'll have to be prepared to talk to customers and tell them about
your farm and what you produce there.
Perhaps you'd like to add value by processing the food you produce; turn
your pork into sausages, your milk into cheese or your apples into juice.
